The green grass and the happy skies
court the fluttering butterflies.

June is abundant with butterflies, and with the vibrantly coloured wings they make for a great photo!
We made a trip to the Birmingham Botanical gardens at the end of May to visit the butterfly house there; we saw a beautiful variety of colours and species! As you can imagine butterflies can be difficult to photograph, but we were lucky to find one emperor butterfly which had only hatched that morning! He enjoyed teasing us by moving just as we went to take a photo, but we patiently waited and in the end we managed to capture the beautiful electric blue of his wings.
We’ve found it’s best to head out early as you’ll catch the butterflies resting and warming their wings in the sun, and although it can be difficult to sneak up close without spooking them, if you try using a telephoto lens and fast shutter speed, you should come back with some great results!
