A Carolina Parakeet is one of many species of birds, which has recently become extinct over the last 100 years. The last confirmed sighting of the parrot was in 1918 in Cincinnati in the Uncarolina parakeet.jpg2ited States. Although some people claim they have seen them over the decades, but nothing was confirmed.

Description:

The Carolina Parakeet was a small green Neotropical parrot with a bright yellow head, a reddish orange face, with a pale beak.

The vibrant flocks of these parrots used to roost in hollow trees, and ate cockleburs and nuts. But due to swamps being drained, forests becoming fields and orchids, they turned to grains and seeds in order to survive. This obviously became a problem for farmers, who in turn needed crops to survive to sell on and make money.

However this wasn’t the only factor in the demise of the Carolina Parakeets, some of the other factors included: deforestation, hunting, and the exotic pet trade. As Carolina Parakeets were well known for being a very communal group of birds and when a member of the flock reached its demise, the flock would stay near, which therefore meant they were easy access for predators.
